How To Motivate Yourself To Get Up When You Hit Rock Bottom (Part 2)

There are times in our lives when things don’t go well with us. Times when it seems like everyone and everything has conspired to make us suffer. Times when we hit rock bottom.

HOW TO MOTIVATE YOURSELF TO GET UP WHEN YOU HIT ROCK BOTTOM

Hitting rock bottom can make you lose motivation, it can steal your happiness (if you let it), you get tired and you eventually become very discouraged in life.

Quitting might seem like the perfect option.

But is giving up the perfect option?

The answer is No.

So now, the question is, How can you motivate yourself to get up when you hit rock bottom?

This post highlights how to motivate yourself to get up when you hit rock bottom.

How do you motivate yourself to get up when you hit rock bottom? When life gets really hard?

What would you tell someone who has just hit rock bottom and is about to give up?

When I hit rock bottom or life gets hard, I remind myself of my goals and where I want to be in life. I also tell myself that giving up won’t make things any better and there are reasons we go through tough times.

I would tell them that things are always hardest before they get better. If you keep pushing and don’t give up, you will thank yourself later – trust me. Also, you have a purpose in life and you won’t be able to fulfill that purpose if you don’t keep going.

This might not quite be the answer people want to hear, but I don’t think I can say I’ve ever hit ‘rock bottom’. I say that because looking back at each difficult situation whether personal or professional, I either learned something immensely valuable from it or grew tougher skin because of it. Of course, in the moment it never looks that way, but in hindsight, it’s what always proved true.

Once upon a time, I was the girl that panicked when things got tough. Pretty much convinced it was the end of the world, and worrying non-stop. Several ‘ends-of-the-world’ later, what keeps me going is remembering that the challenge, the rejection, the tough stuff never lasts (really, it never does). At the very least, it’ll make for a great story to tell someone one day! And I could literally write a series or two with the stories that have piled up over the years.

I would tell them to take a deep breath (or several deep breaths). (No, seriously, you’d be surprised at how much proper breathing calms the mind & body) After that, several suggestions:
  • Step away/detach from the situation for awhile. Take some time to yourself and relax; whether that takes the form of journaling, painting, reading, listening to music, sleeping (yes, naps are a vital part of life).
  • After that, it may be time to sit with yourself and get realistic by asking: “What do I stand to lose if I give up now?” AND “What would I stand to gain if I push through this?”
  • Finally, remember that it never lasts
  • Do your homework after the lesson (Aka Take note later of all the ways you’ve grown through and from this (because you always will☺?).

When things are tough, and I feel overwhelmed and anxious, I try to take a step back, breathe, and concentrate on my ‘why’. Your ‘why’ is that one main thing that stimulates you to achieve your goals and that keeps you moving forward when you are down. It’s your purpose. It’s what drives you to get up and out of bed each and every morning. Surrounding myself with positive influences, be it family and friends, or constructive mantras, is also helpful. Lastly, doing things, even if they are little and seem insignificant, that I truly enjoy and bring happiness, be it pet a dog or eat a nice meal, put me in the right mindset to overcome any difficulties.

Hang in there! Things may seem hard now, but life is a journey composed of ups and downs, and things will definitely get better if you keep at it. Seek help from loved ones, or even a specialist, so that you have a support system to nurture you and guide you in the right direction. You can do this!

When life brings you to your knees and shakes you to your core, it can be a time of profound growth where you develop strength of which you never knew you were capable. The best thing to do is to believe that you’re supposed to be Be’you’tiful. Whenever I feel like giving up, I reach out to inspirational blogs or quotations. I spend some alone time analyzing the situation and making out ways to work on my flaws.

You feel demotivated when you are not surrounded by positive people. In this situation, surround yourself with optimism. Don’t let criticism break you down, let it thrive in a new and positive soul in you. The key to motivating yourself is to know that you’re different from the rest and that’s how it makes you the best. The journey of your life doesn’t seem to be ending here because there is still so much left in you. Your battles are hard, but my friend, you’re stronger to fight them.

What would you tell someone who has just hit rock bottom and is about to give up?

For a long time in my life, I felt that something was wrong and to me, the best solution was to give up.
This was due to the fact that I did not feel valuable to myself, I was not aware of my values, I did not like myself and I did not trust myself.
When you are in a similar position, ask yourself these questions:
What is your dream?
What is your greatest desire?
Giving up means forgetting who we are.
Remember yourself!
Remember the light!
Remember the rhythm of your heart!
What can you do to bring you closer to your goals/target?
Whether small or bigger, just do it!

I motivate myself by listening to faith radio, walking along London’s riverbank, taking time out to reflect, reading motivational quotes and exercising with friends.

Firstly, I would encourage them to seek medical help via talking therapy through friends, family or a medical practitioner.
I would encourage them to join me on my river walks and inspire them to get involved in an activity they really enjoy.

How inspiring! I think it would be easy for some to look at these very young faces and think, “Honey, you haven’t lived long enough to know what rock bottom even is yet!” but every person is dealing with their own challenges in life and these are very real. Personally, I’d have to agree with Talisa. I’ve overcome some pretty major obstacles in my life but at no time did I ever think I hit rock bottom. The way I look at life is that while there are surely things we have no control over, we always, ALWAYS have control over the way we respond. Thanks for the great read! 🙂

That’s right! Everyone is dealing with different challenges and people are going through different tough times that some people can’t understand.

Deep breathing is so powerful and so simple. So many people dismiss its usefulness but they are really missing out.

      Hello.

      Thank you so much.
Sometimes, thinking about what happens next after we must have given up can keep us going.

Life is kinda like a puzzle without instructions. Experience helps us compose, bit by bit, our personal survival manual.

Gratefully, failure (which I learned to think of as lessons), aren’t the only method for adding rules into our playbook/instruction manual – successes are also lessons.

The thing is (learned the hard way), there are no small mistakes or accomplishments, and each should be celebrated and marked down.

The thing is, life’s a game you can’t win, yet, you can’t lose unless you stop playing.

Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment.

Yes! Our experiences and the experiences of others can help us develop means of survival and staying strong.

In life, we take the test before we learn the lesson but we can prepare for these tests by learning from people’s mistakes and experiences.

      Thank you for stopping by.
